Abalastow compendium SEO competition

Posted on September 24th, 2008 by Jeff

Dan Grigsby is running an SEO competition at the U of M. The point of the competition is to see who can get the first Google search result for the phrase Abalastow Compendium. I’ve always wanted to play that game, and I’m getting a kick out of seeing how the students approach this problem.

One Two clever students contacted me and asked me to give him an inbound link. Smart move. Here you go, Abalastow Compendium dot org and Abalastow Compendium dot com. Now I’m curious to see where the Bust Out site ends up in the search result mix.

I wonder if comments on a page are ranked similarly to links in your post? I guess this could depend on whether or not google views

and your blog homepage as seperate entities.

I’m pretty sure that comments are underrated by google for page ranking, except if the rss of comment is used somewhere else to feed a website (like many well-ranked spam site).

Jeff, I can’t seem to find my link on your page…I noticed you filled out my join me form, I’d be happy to link back to you but to be fair you should also link to me.

Sorry Stephen, I think you might be mistaken. I didn’t fill out your form, as I’m not in Dan’s class. I’m not trying to gain search result ranking, but I did received a request from somebody in your class, hence the link to abalastow-compendium.ORG.
